Celebrations and Extra Planning: Canada's 150th Anniversary

2017 marks the year we celebrate Canada's 150th anniversary of confederation. Meaning throughout the year, from coast to coast, festivities are planned to mark this landmark occasion. Normally, Canadians aren’t one to brag – but this year is so special that you’ll see Canadian pride bursting from the seams, flowing from homes and businesses, into the streets in every providence, city, and neighborhood.

Across the country, literally thousands of events are happening over the course of the year. You can check out this website or download the app for event highlights. There is truly something for everyone, in every location.

But as we all know in relocation, business must go on too. Families and individuals are looking to relocate and resettle in Canada every day. The timing and planning of their look see, home-finding trips, and final move date is paramount to ensuring success for all. So, we offer the following tips for your information and assistance when visiting Canada during the relocation process (or vacation):

  • Booking hotel rooms and extended stay apartments: Book as far in advance as you can. Our partners are sensitive to our business needs but rooms and suites are already filling up in some locations for this summer. You’re competing with tourists from around the world and regardless of the season, and anniversary events are non-stop. Click here for a list of Canadian Federal and Provincial holidays.
  • If possible, avoid Canadian long weekends to book home-finding and look see tours. Again, many tourists and Canadians are taking time to explore and experience the festivities. Although destination providers will have coverage, the cost and availability of rooms along with added traffic congestion is a concern.

And finally, while in our great country, try and carve out some time to enjoy an event or two. I can’t think of a better way to meet new people or learn about and experience Canada than by celebrating its 150th Birthday!
