For the final installment of our intern series, we highlight three of our fabulous interns. This week, we put the spotlight on Morgan Gallogly, our Marketing intern in Cleveland, Oskar Brugrand, our Destination Services intern in London, and Alison Sukys, our Valuation Services intern in Cleveland, as they write about the meaningful work they have completed at Dwellworks and their outlook on their futures in the workplace.
What do Recent Graduates Look for in the Workplace?

As the summer begins to wind down and my time at Dwellworks comes to an end, I am left with one sobering thought: college is almost over. The time for me to enter the workforce is quickly approaching. Now a rising senior, I must finally start the daunting process of finding my first "real" job. As my fellow quasi-adults and I begin to pick out nice pairs of dress pants for interviews, check and recheck our resumes for typos, and practice our elevator pitches with roommates, we quickly begin to ruminate on our post-graduation nerves and forget one important fact: the job needs to be the right fit for us too. As much as we should be preparing and practicing and hoping that Company X want us to work for them, we must remember that we must first want to work for Company X. The road to success has been paved with room enough for two lanes -- and in our panicked confusion and apprehension we can tend to forget that.
From my perspective as a soon-to-be recent grad, young people entering the workforce want to land jobs that give them a sense of purpose. We want to wake up in the morning looking forward to greeting coworkers and immersing ourselves into the culture of our company. We want to find passion in the work that we do. We want a work-life balance that encourages us to be the best employees we can be but also reminds us to step back and take a break when the day is over. We want to see potential in the workers around us and in our companies in general. Personally, I want to know that the work I do has meaning. I don't want to be bored. I welcome the challenge of no two days ever being the same. I look forward to exploring my options and remain excited and optimistic that I will find a company that values its people and the work they do.
I don't expect it to be easy. I don't expect it to be quick. But I do expect it to be worth it.
Some may see this as just more millennial stereotypes. However, I see it as a young, driven, and excited generation growing up and looking for happiness in their work and in their life. And from spending time with people my age, I know that we are willing to work hard and give it our all.
Something I've Learned about My Department/Industry that Surprised Me

My knowledge of the Global Mobility Industry, and Destination Services in particular, was very limited prior to joining Dwellworks. As such, the learning curve has been steep with quite a few surprises along the way.
The scope and extent of the Global Mobility industry came as a big surprise. Due to the nature of its services, the industry is relatively unknown. Even to those we assist, what they see is just the tip of the iceberg of what we do. Indeed, the service we provide is very much about removing the hassle of relocation – leaving a streamlined, pleasant and safe relocation experience. Learning about the sophistication and complexities of this global billion-dollar industry have been incredibly interesting.
Luckily, I am a business major which allows me to connect what I learn in the professional setting to a theoretical foundation. During this internship with Dwellworks, however, I have gained insights that have gone beyond my academic understanding. For example, when studying supply chains, I have always imagined a tangible product that gained value as it got sourced, manufactured, and packaged. Never had I thought of a supply chain consisting purely of services. Learning about the service supply chain at Dwellworks, its management and networks, has been a real eye opener.
Moreover, the service delivered by Dwellworks is held to a consistently high standard. I am impressed by the systems in place to govern and continually develop the quality of service, such as performance reviews and comprehensive training sessions. However, the thing that has surprised me the most is seeing how Dwellworks goes out of their way to ensure that every client is happy, again and again.
Interns as Young Professionals
Alison Sukys, Valuation Services, Cleveland
It’s the last official week here for the Summer 2018 Interns in Dwellworks’ Cleveland office. I can’t believe how quickly my time here has gone. I have learned so much in just 12 weeks, and I am so grateful for all the opportunities I have been given in my short time here.
After this school year, I will be graduating and searching for full time employment! Working at Dwellworks has prompted me to think about what I am going to look for in a future workplace. As a young professional, I will definitely seek out an office that values work-life balance, employee collaboration, and the opportunity for growth within the company. Being a summer intern at Dwellworks this year has taught me the importance of teamwork to a company’s success. By far, my favorite part of this summer has been working on a group project with fellow interns. In my future employment, I hope to be able to collaborate regularly with my fellow employees and be able to contribute to the company’s growth.
As a whole, this internship has helped me develop professionally. Between training sessions, the opportunity to meet senior leadership, and the intern group project, I have gained so much valuable knowledge that I will be able to take with me to my next job. I feel so lucky to have been a part of such a fabulous organization, and I will miss the company so much next year!
