Nestled in the rolling hills southwest of the heart of Mexico City, sits an ever-evolving Mexican business epicenter. Architecture
Modern architecture lines the streets, prompting many locals and visitors to compare Santa Fe to a contemporary American city, rather than the expected historic and culturally rich Mexico City districts. Most famous is the Calakmul Building, or more commonly known as “La Lavadora” (The Washing Machine). Although modern in design, the structure bares cultural significance as it honors Mayan ancestors and represents the earth and sky.
Transportation
Navigating through Santa Fe requires a car, as the city is not yet the most walkable. Additionally, bus routes traveling through the city are sparse. However, there are a few bus routes that will take travelers into the city’s center; these busing systems include the Mexico City’s RTP network, pesero buses, and the EcoBus “Ruta Verde.”
Entertainment
Santa Fe attractions include new shops, restaurants, and Latin America’s largest mall (pictured to the left). It is also near three university campuses and neighborhood parks, such as Canada Los Helechos and Alameda, the central park of Santa Fe. While the city itself is a bustling business center, strolling through Santa Fe’s parks allows locals to briefly escape the corporate lifestyle.
Other popular activities in Santa Fe include movie theaters and live theater, which provides quality entertainment on a regular basis.
Dining
Because the city is mostly business, nightlife and weekends in Santa Fe can be on the quiet side, however, that doesn’t mean that exceptional bars and restaurants don’t exist. A variety of restaurants allow Santa Fe locals the luxury of choosing where to eat. Fine dining, inexpensive eateries, seafood shops, and even burger joints fill the streets with delicious scents and even better tastes.
Housing
Housing in Santa Fe offers lavish apartment buildings and gated communities with large single-family homes. All of Santa Fe, including the residential areas, is considered to be highly safe and secure, perfect for a young professional living alone or beginning a family.
