From now until August, each week, two or three of our summer interns will be highlighted as they reflect upon their experiences and work while employed with Dwellworks.
This week, we put the spotlight on Shayla McGuckin, our Corporate Housing intern in Cleveland, Brendan Lenhard, one of our Valuation Services interns in Cleveland and Daria Moore, one of our Destination Services interns in Cleveland, as they write about their most recent week of work, the skills they bring to the workforce, and their time thus far at Dwellworks.
How do Interns Add Value to Dwellworks?
Shayla McGuckin, Corporate Housing, Cleveland
Wow, how the weeks continue to fly by here at my internship with Dwellworks! In just a month, I’ve gained so much experience and knowledge about the industry. I’ve met so many kind people who have taken me under their wings and have provided me with so much guidance and support. The warm and inviting atmosphere has given me motivation to want to come in to work every day with an eagerness to learn.
As interns, we contribute meaningful value to Dwellworks. With our college experience, we bring new and innovative ideas to increase productivity. I believe our education helps provide different and beneficial perspectives on day-to-day tasks. Sometimes after working for a company for a substantial amount of time, you get used to doing things a certain way. Interns offer ways to integrate fresh ideas to inspire new techniques. Dwellworks is a very receptive company in the aspect that they truly value our input and opinions.
Being an intern at Dwellworks has been very rewarding. I’ve had the opportunity to work on a lot of important projects for the company and really have my voice heard. I’ve also been given a significant amount of independence to be creative with my projects and give valuable feedback to my supervisor. I plan to continue to absorb everything I can here and share what I have learned in the classroom towards the success of Dwellworks. I’m looking forward to the next several weeks!
Working at Dwellworks
Brendan Lenhard, Valuation Services, Cleveland
By the time this blog post is released, I will have just finished my fifth week as an intern at Dwellworks. It is hard to believe that I am already more than a third of the way through my internship. Being one of the younger interns, with no prior experience in the business world, I was both excited and nervous to begin my internship here at Dwellworks. I had no idea what to expect coming into my first internship, and so far, I have really enjoyed my experience. I could not have asked for a better culture; everyone is so friendly and inviting towards the interns.
Typically, when I thought of an internship, I had the preconceived idea that we would be doing a lot of the unimportant busy work. However, I quickly realized this was not the case at Dwellworks. What was so surprising to me was learning how much the company values the interns. I was quickly familiarized with the Valuation Services process and given my main responsibilities of list entry and list creation. I learned that my job is a crucial part of the appraisal process because it is where the appraisal process begins. To know what I am doing here is valuable to the company helps to make my experience even better. In addition, through the work I have done, I have been able to develop some very important skills.
In my position, I am constantly communicating and reaching out to people. This constant communication has allowed me to learn the valuable skill of being able to communicate and handle situations with clients and people. This is something that I will be able to take and apply in any future internship or job. I am excited to continue to take on new challenges as the summer progresses, and I am looking forward to the rest of the summer!
Working at Dwellworks
Daria Moore, Destination Services, Cleveland
Before working at Dwellworks, I had never heard of an occupation in Destination Services. As I began my training, I was a little intimidated, but thankfully the managers provide plenty of resources and instruction that made the training process easy and fast. I also have the advantage of working with one other DS intern who helps share the workload. When the job gets intense, I like to relax by going outside for lunch breaks or hanging out with the other interns by going to Cleveland’s “Walnut Wednesdays.” Nearly every Wednesday I have worked here, I have experienced food from a restaurant I have not previously had with some of the interns and it serves as a great time to bond.
The biggest benefit of having so many interns work here at Dwellworks is the comfort of knowing there are other employees within your age group that you can talk to and relate with. I really enjoy the jokes between the interns, as well as the networking we share with one another. It is not hard to become friends because we all share friendly and outgoing personalities that make working here more enjoyable. The interactions between us interns helps provide us with a bigger scope on the different components that make up Dwellworks. It’s nice to know that we serve as an extra crutch to the employees in our various departments.
