From now until August, each week, two or three of our summer interns will be highlighted as they reflect upon their experiences and work while employed with Dwellworks.
This week, we put the spotlight on Allie Brydell, our Destination Services in Detroit and Cory Halfast, our Information Technology intern in Cleveland, as they write about the meaningful work they have completed at Dwellworks and their view of working for a global company.
What It's Like Working in a Global Business Environment

With my only previous jobs being at Abercrombie and a local golf course, I have not had much experience working with people from around the world. Working for a global business has been extremely eye opening for me, both personally and professionally. It is so interesting to see how many different countries and cities various companies operate within, and how many employees move around the globe for work.
It has even been a learning experience just working with people across the country, such as realizing the different time zones and knowing when it is appropriate to call DSCs in certain areas. It is rewarding knowing that I am a part of something that is so large and so widespread. Over the many programs I have been assigned and worked on, there have been a huge variety of countries involved, and I think it is very cool that we make sure each program is tailored to the transferee and the needs that they have. I could not imagine moving across the world to a place where I know so little about, and I enjoy that I am helping people find comfort when moving, even if I am just a small part of the whole process.
Internship Takeaways

Through the weeks of working at Dwellworks in the IT department, I have learned more about the industry than I have in my years attending school. The main difference between classes and real work is that there isn’t always a correct answer; nothing is ever as straight forward as it may seem. To some people, this may seem like a nuisance; however, I enjoy the challenge. The reward is much sweeter when you must work for it and use your brain than it is when the answer is given to you.
Similarly to the work never having an obvious answer, the work is extremely varied and spontaneous. In the short period of time that I have been working at Dwellworks, I have experienced problems that I had to solve that I have never even considered before. On top of that, the tickets that come in for me to solve are very sporadic. To me, this type of work fosters a lot of growth as a young professional in the field of IT and as a soon-to-be college graduate.
The knowledge I have gained of the IT industry as a whole and the deeper insight into my own abilities that I have realized while in this internship have done an excellent job of preparing myself for life after college. Going in to my final year of school, I truly believe I will have a different outlook on the work given to me in class and the process of how solutions should be found. So far, the internship at Dwellworks has far exceeded my expectations and I look forward to what the remainder of this program holds for me!
